The Roar Inside

Written by Ophelia Thomas

The screams are  insistent. The din persists. I try to block it out, but you can’t block out something that’s coming from inside.

The roar won’t stop. The howls keep coming. I try to block it out, but you can’t block out something that’s coming from inside.

The screeches continue. The shouts ring. I try to block it out, but you can’t block out something that’s coming from inside.

I can’t concentrate, the noise is too loud. I try to pay attention, but the thunder of sounds is too powerful.

All my emotions try to break free, but they can’t get out. I won’t let them get out.
I will not cry.

The pain may be great, but my will is stronger. The agony may be strong, but my will is greater.
I will not cry.

I am strong.

... This is one of those poems where if read aloud would just leave the room in stunned silence for a few seconds. Amazing, it makes you feel for the "I". I agree with Emmie, Goose Bumps.
